Bill, Hilary Clinton to Testify in Congress Over Epstein Probe
Confirmation of their appearance came amid a public exchange involving Angel Urena, who previously served as deputy chief of staff to Bill Clinton. Responding on social media to remarks by the committee’s chair, Urena wrote: "They negotiated in good faith. You did not." He went on to say: "They told you under oath what they know, but you don’t care. But the former President and former Secretary of State will be there. They look forward to setting a precedent that applies to everyone."
No specific date or schedule for the Clintons’ testimony has yet been announced.
The development follows action taken last month by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which moved forward with contempt of Congress measures against the Clintons after they declined to appear for depositions linked to the Epstein investigation.
According to statements attributed to the committee’s leadership, the decision by the Clintons to testify came only after those contempt proceedings were initiated. The committee chair said on Monday that while the Clintons’ legal representatives indicated agreement to testify, the conditions proposed were still unclear and lacked firm dates. "The Clintons’ counsel has said they agree to terms, but those terms lack clarity yet again and they have provided no dates for their depositions," he said in a statement.
He added that the next step would involve clarifying the terms under discussion before consulting with committee members on how to proceed.
Jeffrey Epstein died in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. Earlier, in 2008, he had pleaded guilty in a Florida court to procuring a minor for prostitution, a case outcome that critics later described as a “sweetheart deal.”
Individuals who say they were victimized by Epstein have alleged that he ran a wide-reaching sex trafficking operation involving influential figures from political and financial circles, allegations that have continued to fuel congressional and public scrutiny.
